Round 4 – thruxton: Qualifying

Published on June 7, 2025

Quotes from the fourth qualifying session of the 2025 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship season.

Dan Lloyd: “Yeah, so overall, qualifying was really disappointing, not just for me, but for the whole team. We came into the session off the back of our best Saturday of the year so far. We were strong in both FP1 and FP2, and confidence was high heading into qualifying.

“Unfortunately, the rain arrived and that changed everything. It was our first time running properly in the wet this season on new tyres, and in hindsight, there are a few things we could have done differently. The conditions caught us out a little, and we didn’t maximise the session the way we should have.

“We ended up P15, which obviously isn’t where we wanted to be, and it’s frustrating not to have made it into Q2, especially when we know the car has the pace in the dry.

“That said, we’ve learned a lot from today. It was a valuable session in terms of gaining experience in tricky conditions, and we’ll take that knowledge forward. We’ve got work to do tomorrow, but we’ve shown we’ve got the pace, and we’ll be pushing hard to fight back through the field.”

Chris Smiley: “In FP2 today, we were the quickest car on the dry track, and both myself and Tom Ingram were under the existing qualifying lap record, so the pace was definitely there. The car felt really good, and we were in a strong place heading into qualifying.

Unfortunately, qualifying didn’t go to plan. We came in after one flying lap and made a change, which ended up putting us outside the optimal front tyre window. Looking back, I think we should have stayed out for the whole session and just kept pushing. The more laps you did, the quicker the car became, and I feel like we missed that opportunity.

That said, we’ve got a really fast car underneath us, and I’m confident we’ll be able to move forward in the races tomorrow. The goal now is to get ourselves back up to where we should be, and I’m fully focused on making that happen.”
