Round 9 – Silverstone: Qualifying

Published on September 20, 2025

Quotes from the ninth qualifying session of the 2025 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship season.

Dan Lloyd: “Quick recap of today, it’s been a really solid one. We were 7th and 4th in practice in the dry, so the pace was there right from the start. Qualifying was tricky with the mixed conditions, but we stayed strong throughout and ended up 4th in the wet, which was a great result.

It’s been nice to show good pace in both the dry and the wet, which gives us a lot of confidence heading into tomorrow. At one stage in Q2 we were sitting P2, then P4 at the end, not far off the quickest. So we’re in a really strong position to get stuck in on race day.

Big thanks to the team for the effort today, the car feels great and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do tomorrow.”

Chris Smiley: “So that’s Saturday over and done with here at Silverstone, and it’s definitely been a tough day. The car has actually felt pretty good for most of it, but I don’t think we really had the chance to show our true pace.

In FP1 we focused on scrubbing tyres and only ran the mediums, then in FP2 we did the same at the start before another run on the mediums. Unfortunately, I was shown a black flag for track limits, which turned out to be a mistake, the judges had counted other cars that looked similar to mine. That meant I missed the last ten minutes of practice and lost the opportunity to run the soft tyre ahead of qualifying, which left us going in a little blind.

In Q1, we managed to put in a lap that was good enough for fifth overall, but then the rain came down heavily. We thought it would stay wet, so we pitted early, but the track dried much quicker than expected. That call caught us out and in the end we’re starting 15th.

It’s not the Saturday we wanted, but I know the car underneath me is fast, so I’m looking forward to tomorrow and hopefully turning things around.”
